Margaret A. Gilbride Dance School has been established in Newton Mearns for many years. The dance school offers a full curriculum, in classical ballet, modern theatre, jazz, tap, acro/gymnastics, street dance & freestyle. There are a wide range of classes for all age groups.
In all styles pupils are encouraged to sit graded exams or medal tests.
Every pupil has the opportunity to take part in dancing shows.
Many pupils have the opportunity to audition for the Scottish Ballet Dance Education Scheme, Ballet West Aspiring Professional Course, Higher Dance in conjunction with the Scottish Dance Teacher's Alliance, R.S.A.M.D. Ballet Degree Course, days of dance and many events.
Our teachers are registered with The Royal Academy of Dance. We follow the syllabus and guidelines for Classical Ballet. From our fun Pre-school classes to Majors. Pre-School commences from age 2 years 6 months, for boys & girls. We follow the Royal Academy exam syllabus.Learn more
Our Jazz syllabus ranges from tiny tots to professional level. It is one of the most popular styles of dance, mainly due to its popularity in stage shows, television, and musical theatre. It is challenging and great fun. We follow the Scottish Dance Teacher's Alliance exam syllabus.Learn more
Our Tap syllabus ranges from tiny tots to professional level. Believed to have begun in the mid 1800s from Minstrel Shows, leading to a Broadway style. Tap improves co-ordination, rhythm and syncopation. We follow the Scottish Dance Teacher's Alliance exam syllabus.Learn more
We follow the British Association of Teachers of Dancing medal test syllabus. Acro/gymnast is the performance of extraordinary feats of balance, for agility and co-ordination. It can be found in many of the performing arts. It helps the dancer tremendously with flexibility.Learn more
We enter pupils for the British Association of Teachers of Dancing for the freestyle medal tests and the Scottish Dance Teacher's Alliance for street dance medal tests. Street Dance, Hip Hop & Freestyle is a funkstyle, popping, & locking, for dance routines to pop music.Learn more
Higher dance is available at this school through auditions with the Scottish Dance Teacher's Alliance. It is a two year course. Two pupils gained their higher last term. Namely Jennifer McLean (Grade 8) and Jamie Shields (Grade 7). Three pupils successfully auditioned in August 2012.Learn more
